Sustainability

Sustainability and Brand: why we do what we do

Our purpose in creating Oyster has been to provide a way for companies to close the gap between their high level sustainability goals and imperatives and translate these down to the level of the brand.   Whether we do this through branded merchandise, campaign development or educational materials and workshops, we are all about bringing sustainability to life and making it part of everyone's mindset.
We truly believe that when our clients make a sustainable choice, they are helping build momentum towards a healthier planet.

We like the simple meaning of sustainability that was first published in the 1987 Brundtland Report.
It defined the meaning of sustainable development as:

"Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Thinking and acting with sustainability in mind is an imperative.
Purpose has become a driver for change.

Porter Novelli/Cone, a global PR agency has captured the top 10 trends of 2019.  A few of these include:  Climate urgency takes centre stage; CEO activism goes mainstream; Gender identity opens opportunities for expression; Fashion accelerates sustainability; Youth leads a movement, Plastics takes precedence. Plastics was by far the most popular issue.
A 2018 study by Globescan and BBMG included research on Gen Z (18-22 years). It revealed that Gen Z can be considered the 'purposeful generation'.   Based on the research, the study has identified 5 strategies for brands to be more authentic, more relevant and create more impact in their world: Be Brave, Hold Space, Welcome All, Fuel Passion and Own It.  You can find the study here: https://globescan.com/gen-z-reckoning/
93% of global consumers want to see more of the brands they use support worthy social and/or environmental issues, and three out of four teenagers say they want to buy more sustainable products.

Report by: Sustainable Lifestyles Frontier Group.
Sustainability is complicated, but as it becomes mainstream, it has become part of our lexicon.  Engaging customers in your sustainability journey through branded merchandise, education and in other ways, helps bring the concept to life.

SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.".  The SDGs, set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030, are part of UN Resolution 70/1, the 2030 Agenda.
